sunshine cult is an ambient,
electronic band from dallas, tx.
the band is still writing and demoing their debut album, serotonin — but the songs that are completed are ethereal and pad-heavy recordings that feature glitch kits and hazy textures.
the band has found their sound by fusing live and machine-based drums with lo-fi hip hop and bedroom beats. amongst all of that noise, the songs on the album still find a way to sound intimate and even minimal in nature while retaining pop-sensibility.
one recurring theme on the band’s debut LP is the use of granular pads and an experimental approach to modern songwriting. the band uses atmospheres, ambience and electric guitars to create spectral landscapes of sound that fit in naturally with pop music, but still breaks some rules along the way.
‘serotonin’ is a unique snapshot of identity — filled with reverb, static, and vocal melodies that amplify the lyrics they’re supporting. the album sounds as though it’s the soundtrack to a movie you wish you could watch for the first time again.
